LactaScreen was created by combining thirty years of experience in biochemistry, immunology, and clinical studies with a passion for health and conscious nutrition.

The common belief is that breast milk is perfect and contains all the necessary ingredients for a baby’s development. However, studying scientific information shows that breast milk contains unique milk fibers, Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs), which are important for a baby’s development and health. Due to genetic differences, a quarter of women lack some important HMOs such as 2′-FL. This substance is of great importance in developing a healthy microbiome and strengthening the immune system.

“As a mother of two adult daughters, I know all too well how important a good start has been for my children. Consciously breastfeeding was very important for that”

The goal of LactaScreen is to increase awareness among women that breastfeeding is crucial for a baby’s proper development. LactaScreen gives mothers the opportunity to gain insight into the composition of their breast milk so they can give their baby the best start.

Dr. Marcel van der Sluis

From my professional background in nutritional ingredients, enzymes, and the analysis of milk fibers, I combine science with a passion for health. Through LactaScreen, knowledge about breast milk and the microbiome is made available to a wide audience.

The relationship between the microbiome and health is a subject of great interest. This science is young, and there are still many uncertainties.  However, it is clear that the microbiome is an important part of our body and has several distinct functions. There are various ways of communication between the microbiome and the human body, which could potentially have an effect on health.

The microbiome in babies is nourished by the ingredients in breast milk, with milk fibers playing an important role. For this reason, knowledge about the composition of your breast milk is of great importance.
